“SHARING FOR LIFE” - for a sustainable development of Mlingotini Village, Tanzania
- The fund was raised on initiative of the Norwegian owner of BOMANI beach BUNGALOWS, Solfrid Gjengset, who also is responsible today.
It was raised in Norway, based on communication of the situation in the village and the plans we had to develop the school.
In 2015 it was regsitered officialy as a non profit organisation: https://w2.brreg.no/enhet/sok/detalj.jsp?orgnr=916290136
And not least: - The fund is totally neutral, without any special connections either to religious or political groups. All money collected goes to the fund – no administration costs.

Goals for 2017
The renovation of the last and oldest part of the school has started.
Together with the Village Government we have now made sure that the water supply for the school is secured.
It's not possible to renovate the old building with 5 rooms and we have desided to contruct two new buildings with
3 rooms each. The cost is 30 000 USD pr building.
We are also working on a facebook page for the fund, to make sure that everybody can follow the work.
Now we are looking forward to your support!
Please send an email to us for further information: [email protected]
General goals
- To support the development of the village, with focus on education, by donations to SHARING FOR LIFE.
- To help the villagers helping themselves to reach higher goals through increased knowledge
January 2017 - the four ladies have restarted their business:
PLANNED PROJECTS
- all in close cooperation with the village leaders, the school/head teacher and other organizations working to develop this area.
Pearl Journeys in Norway and BOMANI beach BUNGALOWS are still working with a lot of plans!
1. Renovation of classrooms
The old school building should be rebuilt, as the excisting buildings are not strong enough for renovation.
2. Education for teachers
3. Helth Care
4. Adult education
Many of the youngsters and adults in the village are not capable of reading or writing. The need for improvement in this field became more visible after the establishing the hotel in the village.
The vision of the fund is to be able to implement teaching for adults who would like to learn. We believe that this education will mean a lot for the total development of this area.
A library will be an important investment in this prosess. Subject for adults education:
a. Reading and writing, Swahili & English
b. Basic knowledge about history, geography, nature…
c. Health and food
d. Business possibilities and cash management
e. Tourism
Happy with new desks
HISTORY
School development
1. Desks to everybody: In 2007, when the resort was established, 90 pupils at the school were without desks and had to sit on the floor of sand. Today all pupils have desks, thanks to generous tourists.
2. Cultural Exchange: A school class from Norway communicated with a class in Mlingotini by writing letters to each other. The pictures from Norway with pupils playing in the snow, made strong impression! For all parties: A glimpse into a totally different world, "the other side of the planet"!

Proud team after good job
3. Preschool room
The preschool classroom was totally outranged and the resort guests, who visited, became emotional when seeing small children writing in their books and singing their songs, sitting on the "floor" of sand!
It was a big process to make this room "shine", but thanks to a local team of “fundi’s”, we succeeded!
Now the children are sitting on their chairs in a very nice environment. The classroom has got walls, floor, new windows to prevent intruders and a door.
4. Pre-school teacher
There is a wish that all children in the village should have the opportunity to attend pre-school 1-2 years before they start in school.
This is not paid by the government, which means that the parents have to pay the salary for a teacher. It turns out that the cost per child per month 2 000 TZS (1,2 USD) is too much for many parents. The resort has therefore decided to share the costs with the parents. For those who can pay 1000 TZS, we cover the rest. Then the pre-school teacher receives 100 000 TZS from the fund at Bomani each month. As this is a regular cost, it is important to have partners who can contribute over time.
5. TEACHER’S desks
The teacher’s tables and chairs were all in a very bad condition due to long use and no maintenance. Due to the fund, they now have new tables and chairs in their own, fresh room.
6. THE HEAD MASTER'S office
is now totally renovated with money from the fond: This is a very inspiring environment for the managemnt of the school.
7. HOUSE FOR TEACHERS
This was nearly finished by the village governmet and we added some money from the fund to finalize it completely.

Strong and creative ladies
A group of 12 ladies in the village are very well organized, constantly developing new ideas for earning money. At BOMANI they are offering to cook traditional food with the guests, painting henna and giving traditional massage.
In the village they have established a second hand shop, selling clothes given by the guests at BOMANI. Now they have managed to buy an oven and they have started to bake bread.
From the Fond money, we have paid for the rent of a room. Soon we bring the pictures of the shop they have established.
Some of them have even rented a farmland and started to grow vegetables.
In cooperation with other groups in the village, they are now producing soaps from the sea weed they are growing in the lagoon.
When the ladies earn money, many families get a better life. It’s now visible in the village and really gives hope!

Women in business!
The ladies are very creative, full of good ideas and are working hard.
They have also achieved a great lot:
The shop with second had clothes (brought to the village by AD Travel and BOMANI customers) together with their other small businesses, give them income which is used for developing their business.
A baking oven has been bought and now they sell fresh bread to the villagers and even earn more.
Here some of them are smiling because they have got a glass desk from the fond. Now they can present their breads nicely and clean.
This is the first desk like this in the village! Will there be more?
The fond has also paid for half a year rent of the little shop and they assure us that after that they will earn for the rent themselves!
Challenges in 2015: As soon as the ladies get more clothers from abroad, the owner of the shop clames more money. This makes the ladies earn less: Let's look at the possiblities for them to have thier own house for business! This will be one of the projects in the village soon!

Jose's shop
The young lady is alone with her daughter, but with some support from the fund SHARING FOR LIFE, she is now able to earn for her living.
Soaps, shampoos and lovely dresses are the main goods, but by adding a fridge she also offers soda and ice cream to
the villagers.
We are sending great thanks to everybody who have supported her and other projects in the village.
Every little support make us able to go on!

The preschool teacher gets half of her salary from the fond and the other half from the parents.

RESPONSIBLE TOURISM:
WE WANT Bomani to influence positively to the development of Mlingotini
Simply by
a. Employing people from the village
b. Using local labors for the constructions
c. Buying building material here
d. Buying fish and other food from the villagers
e. Making the fishermen assist us in taking the guests on boat trips
f. Constructing a “Traditional house” at Bomani, to develop an arena for traditional activities
g. Establishing a group of women who offers service to the guests, using the traditional house
a. Cooking traditional food
b. Making local craft
h. Establishing the little fund to participate in the development of the village. With making it more formal and involve more persons, it should be possible to go from a small scale project to plan and organize for future and reach bigger goals in Mlingotini.
BOMANI beach BUNGALOWS
- WHERE PEOPLE AND CULTURES MEET CLOSELY -The best place to learn to know the Tanzanian culture, or to unwind from the daily life in town,
between Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo
Greetings:
As director of BOMANI beach BUNGALOWS and AD Travel, I’m really grateful to all customers and friends who have been giving their contributions.
Our wish for future is that we can go on like we have started. But we depend on donors who see the value of small scale project like this.
Let’s even make it grow by formalizing it and by involving more people, may be to become a more total “village development program”? Does it sound interesting?

MLINGOTINI VILLAGE & BOMANI beach BUNGALOWS
Facts about Mlingotini Village, Tanzania
Rural area, located 56 km north of Dar es Salaam and 15 km south of Bagamoyo
Part of the Bagamoyo District
3000 inhabitants

A mosque (80% Muslims?)
One primary school with 450 pupils
The village has houses built of clay or bricks and most floors are sandy. Some few have got electricity. Meals are cooked the traditional way, on bonfire. Windows are without glass and roofs are covered with makuti (coconut leaves).
The village gets Income from fishing and farming, as well as service, production of seaweed and cement blocks. There are three local bars and some local shops, all of very basic standard.
Very small scale farming gives a minimum income, as the area mostly content of sandy ground. Partly draught means that kasawa is the most secure food product here, but there are several coconut trees, mango trees and local scrub.
CULTURE
Three local cinemas showing the video on TV, i.e. private persons who has bought a TV and use this as a cinema.
Tegemeo Jazz Band – local group playing local and international music (autodidact and most home made instruments)
Mlingotini Sanaa Group - Traditional dance, music and song
Mlingotini is well known for many "traditional healers" - "witch doctors": This has made the village quite known, as politicians /presidents are visiting Mlingotini, believing that they get the wisdom and spirit here..
Tourism: One resort - BOMANI beach BUNGALOWS, part of the genuine community in Mlingotini Village
There is an increased interest in the area amongst investors. This is probably due to the ongoing development of the infrastructure. New Bagamoyo Road will have four lanes in 2013 and the road from Msata to Bagamoyo is under development. Better infrastructure in the area will mean that a lot of the traffic to northern Tanzania will pass Mlingotini from next year.
The improved infrastructure has resulted in that Bagamoyo town develops quickly and growing business has led to more banks and supermarkets. This is a district full of opportunities and for youngsters growing up here, education will be the most important basis for them to be able to utilize the potential this area has.
